FASHION MUSEUM HASSELT

DRESSING THE 20th CENTURY
The 20th century was characterised by very diverse fashions which succeeded each other in a whirlwind speed, culminating in an explosion of styles at the end of the century.
As scenographer I had to work within the existing design of the museum, maximizing the available space in order to create a natural flow in the exhibition that would tie together the different periods and fashions.  Using the one binding element FABRIC as my inspiration we progress through the eras which are highlighted by various, time appropriate FABRICS. It is FABRIC in its purest form that is the basis of any garment and it is FABRIC in which we have always draped ourselves.  Each advance in technology brings forth a new style that comes to define the zeitgeist.  FABRIC defines fashion; FABRIC’s trademark properties shape an era.
